Consent Management
Glossary of Terms
Here we explain the main terms used in Consent Management.
For a general discussion of what a brand and channel is and a sample use case, look here.
Consent Management Terminology
Target
Target is the consent. Like brand and channel, it is also free-form. An example, opt into cross-behavior-contextual advertising.
Vendor
Vendor is free-form. It is important for 3rd party integration. Here is an example:
Consider an IoT Smart home system. One set of devices could be the outdoor floodlight. > Another is the Ring doorbell camera. Each is made by a different company (vendor).
Conflict
A conflict arises when one accept
and opposing reject
are received on the same brand across different channels. Refer to Conflicts and Unified Consents for an illustrated example.
Ids
Refer to User Identification for an illustration of the anonymous and verifiedId flow.
Subject
The subject is the person giving consent.
Consent
Consent means permission. This could be a legal consent or a preference. A legal consent could be, for example, permission to sell the user's data to a third party. A preference might be to opt-out of a marketing campaign.
Unified Consent
A unified consent is a roll-up of all consents for that person across all channels within the brand. It also contains conflicts being resolved.
Profile
The profile
is used for verifiedIds
. Anonymous IDs do not have a profile since we don't have any information about the person, like their email address. We have their email address for verified IDs.
Note: You can post any information that you want to the profile. It's free form.
You can repeat the POST
to /subjects/profile
as many times as you want. That way you can add additional property values to the subject.
You cannot show profile attributes after you have added them as that would be a privacy violation.
Privacy Regulations
Here is a list of privacy regulations in the EU and the USA.
